McCarthyism[1]
is famous smear tactic falsely attributed to Senator Joe McCarthy and his
alleged work the HUAC, the House Un-American Activities Committee, of which he
was never a member or consultant. It was illegal to be a Communist or to belong
to a similar organization such as the Nazis under the Smith Act of 1940. [2]
This act was later found to be ‘unconstitutional’ in 1957 in several Supreme
Court decisions by liberal activists such as Felix Frankfurter, Hugo Black, and
William O. Douglas. The Act was the basis of law when Senator McCarthy started
his investigations. The liberals rant about the Rule of Law, but not on red
hunting.
The
beginning of McCarthyism starts with McCarthy’s speech in 1950 in Wheeling West
Virginia on Communism. He delivered a speech; the
transcript was lost soon after the delivery in which he said he had a list of
names of Communists who were working in the US government. This caused a furor
and the US Senate reacted by forming
Senate subcommittee was led by Senator Millard Tydings, a Democrat, [MD]
and was charged with "…a full and
complete study and investigation as to whether persons who are disloyal to the
United States are, or have been, employed by the Department of State."[3]
The
saga starts here and is outlined in great detail in the new book Blacklisted by History.[4]
The
‘smear’ tactics were directed toward Senator McCarthy [McC] immediately by
Tydings and other Democrats on the subcommittee. McCarthy started his testimony
beginning in March 8, 1950
ending on July 17,1950 .
The
difficulty was perceived as McCarthy had merely rehashed the names on the Lee
list, prepared years earlier with backgrounds on about 80 people who had been ‘cleared’
The Lee list had no names, only
birthdates and employment information and such. Tydings began by interrupting McC 88 times and
attempted to frustrate his testimony. He claimed that McC had lied and had said
he had 205 names on list at the Wheeling Speech and took his information from
the outdated Lee list. The problem here was that there were no names on the Lee
list and the Lee list was a truncated version of about 284 people who had been
previously investigated. [5]
McC talked about 57. There is no transcript of his speech. The leftists have
invented some version of this speech.
At
the hearings, despite numerous heated interruptions, McCarthy expanded on his
original list of unnamed individuals using results of is own research and made
charges against nine others whose names he made public: [6]
The
hearings became a circus in which Tydings tried to obstruct McC and prevent his
testimony .Thus, the Senator from Wisconsin
had to fight the Communists, liberals and Truman Administration at once.
Several names submitted by McC had been investigated by the FBI such as Service
that showed his connection with communists in several projects with audio
tapes. Service was fired and then reinstated by leftist-dominated SCOTUS. Tydings
sent a letter to President Truman warning him of the urgent need to stop McC.
Truman’s administration was riddled with Communists such as Lauchlin Currie,[7]
identified by the VENONA [8]decrypts
as a member of two Soviet spy networks with the code name “Page.” Thus there
were communist spies at the highest levels of the Truman Administration. Tydings
went so far as to show a record player with, ostensibly, the audio transcript
of the McCarthy speech in Wheeling, but this was a ruse and a crude attempt to
McCathyize McCarthy with a crude smear tactic. This was a sensation in
Congress.
Apparently
McC got his info from the FBI and J. Edgar Hoover who sent memos to Truman and
they were ignored or ‘lost.’ Dean Acheson steered the attack on McC. The fight
was later resumed by Richard Nixon [9]
This resulted in the conviction and execution of the Rosenbergs , identified as paid spies by the
VENONA project. McC said: “However,
Truman was president "in name only because the Acheson group has almost
hypnotic powers over him. We must impeach Acheson, the heart of the
octopus."[10]
The
Rosenberg
executions are still a cause célèbres for the left as they still think they
were innocent and victims of McCarthyism. They were, indeed guilty and deserved
to be executed.
Conclusion:
The
point of all this is that, yes,
there were Communists
and Marxist
sympathizers in the Democratic Party in 1950 and this is all clear from history and the
VENONA decrypts. The FBI was frustrated by Truman and his ‘loyalty’ oaths were but
a crude ruse to cover his political problems. And, yes,
the left and far left were comfortable with Communists in our government as
they are now. Let us not forget the Progressive Caucus with the following names [Nancy Pelosi
had to withdraw her name from this organization for political reasons]:
Neil
Abercrombie (Hawaii), Tammy Baldwin
(Wisconsin), Xavier Becerra
(California),Madeleine Bordallo (Guam),
Corrine Brown (Florida), Sherrod
Brown (Ohio), Michael Capuano
(Massachusetts), Julia Carson
(Indiana), Donna Christian-Christensen
(Virgin Islands), William Lacy Clay, Jr.
(Missouri), John Conyers (Michigan), Danny Davis (Illinois), Peter DeFazio (Oregon), Rosa DeLauro (Connecticut), Lane Evans (Illinois), Eni Faleomavaega (American Samoa), Sam Farr (California), Chaka Fattah (Pennsylvania), Bob Filner (California), Barney Frank (Massachusetts), Raul Grijalva (Arizona), Luis Gutierrez (Illinois), Maurice Hinchey (New York), Jesse Jackson, Jr. (Illinois), Sheila Jackson-Lee (Texas), Stephanie Tubbs Jones (Ohio), Marcy Kaptur (Ohio), Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick (Michigan), Dennis Kucinich (Ohio),Tom Lantos (California), John Lewis (Georgia), Ed Markey (Massachusetts),
Jim
McDermott (Washington), James P.
McGovern (Massachusetts), Cynthia
McKinney (Georgia), George Miller
(California), Gwen Moore
(Wisconsin), Jerry Nadler (New York),
Eleanor Holmes Norton (District of Columbia),
John Olver (Massachusetts), Major
Owens (New York), Ed Pastor
(Arizona), Donald Payne (New
Jersey), Bobby Rush (Illinois), Bernie Sanders (Vermont), Jan Schakowsky (Illinois), Jose Serrano (New York), Louise Slaughter (New York), Hilda Solis
(California), Pete Stark
(California), Bennie Thompson
(Mississippi), John F. Tierney
(Massachusetts), Tom Udall (New
Mexico), Nydia Velazquez (New
York), Maxine Waters (California), Diane Watson (California), Mel Watt (North Carolina), Henry Waxman (California)
And
, yes we have a Communist
running for President.
The
Progressive
Caucus is now a safe haven for the far left and Communists may do
what they wish under the cover of McCarthyism. It is full of left-wing advocate
organizations[11]
[12]
[13]
McCarthy
had the Law of
the Land on his side and was
prevented from presenting his cases before subcommittees of the Senate. He was
shouted down by frightened leftists who saw a purge coming. What happened was
that this became a political issue and the liberal Democrats used the same
tactics on McCarthy that they accused him of using on innocents. This farce
persists today thus giving protection to those on the far left who have a comfortable
existence in the Democratic Party along with the CPUSA.[14]
[15]
[16]
Thus,
McCarthyism is a useful leftist construct to smear anybody who challenges the
integrity or political affiliations of any person while allowing such labels as
Nazis, Fascists or other slurs to be a perfectly legitimate basis for ridicule.
That is how far our political system has sunk in the latrines.
‘McCarthyism’
is the antithesis of red-baiting.
The
Communists
are behind Hillary
in this election. Their McCarthyism against the Republicans is thus noble and
fair in their view.
All
this ought to sound familiar:
“The working class and all who work for a
living—the vast majority of the people—face a relentless, vicious, and amoral
enemy: the capitalist class. Our country is
oppressed by one of the most controlling, despicable,
entrenched capitalist ruling classes ever, concentrating enormous
political, economic, and military power in the hands of a few transnational
corporations. These corporations seek to steal,
embezzle, extort, and scheme all wealth from the tens of millions of working
people, from small businesses and family farmers, from men, women, and
children, from seniors and youth, and from the employed, underemployed, and
unemployed. They exploit people as workers on the job and the same people as
consumers at the checkout counter. Their foremost
weapon to maintain their dominance is racism, used to divide working people and
achieve extra profits. They work hard to extend ultra-right control over the
government and government policy.”[17]
Does
it read a bit like Hillary? It is from the Communist Party USA site. It ought to.
Hillary now uses the term Swift-boating as a substitute to McCarthyism. It
doesn’t matter that John Kerry[18]
was a traitor, phony solder who got three purple
hearts with three drops of blood and
aided the Communists in Paris
while our soldiers were dying in Viet Nam . He is still a liberal
icon. Bill Clinton spent two weeks in a
swank hotel in Moscow
in 1969. Hillary was a Saul Alinsky Communist in
college.
I
hope we notice that this all adds up………… Hillary is a Commie and wants control
of the White House, again.
Vote
for Obama until later…….

“McCarthy is usually quoted to have said: "I have here in my hand a list
of 205—a list of names that were made known to the Secretary of State as being
members of the Communist Party and who nevertheless are still working and shaping
policy in the State Department." There is some dispute about whether or
not McCarthy actually gave the number of people on the list as being "205,"
"57," or, indeed, any number at all. In a later telegram
to Truman, and when entering the speech into the Congressional Record, he used
the number 57.[22] The origin of the number 205 can be traced: In later debates
on the Senate floor, McCarthy referred to a 1946 letter that then-Secretary of
State James Byrnes sent to Congressman Adolph J. Sabath. In that letter, Byrnes
said State Department security investigators had resulted in
"recommendation against permanent employment" for 284 persons, and
that only 79 of these had been removed from their jobs; this left 205 still on
the State Department's payroll.[23] On the Senate floor, McCarthy said that
while he did not have the names of the 205 mentioned in the Byrnes letter, he
did have the names of 57 who were either members of or loyal to the Communist
Party. McCarthy stated he referred to 57 "known Communists;"

boasting, and the empty rhetoric coming from Bush once again in his State of

washed up actor who nearly everyone now realizes never should have stepped foot

[16] A Gigantic Battle in 2008. by Joelle
Fishman, Chair, Political Action Committee, CPUSA, 11/21/2007 11:16 . In 2008 the elections for President and
Congress could change the political map in our country. Shatter right-wing Republican political
control of the South, end right-wing political dominance of rural America , create
big new possibilities for workers to join and organize unions and give new
voice to the disenfranchised. The 2008 elections could usher in a new grass
roots people’s politics in our nation. http://www.cpusa.org/index.php/article/archive/147/
